The Faculty of Nautical Studies, based at the college’s Riverside campus on the banks of the Clyde, will provide the following OPITO Approved courses:
Ian McMillin, Managing Director for SAFER Training, said:
“SAFER Training are delighted to announce our partnership with City of Glasgow College to deliver a range of OPITO Training and Assessment standards.”
Following approval from OPITO, the global regulating body for the oil and gas industry, it will become only the second college in Scotland to provide such training.
Paul Little, Principal and Chief Executive of City of Glasgow College, said:
“Our college is currently the UK’s premiere maritime campus and we are now raising the bar yet again and creating a Glasgow Centre of Excellence for the Oil and Gas industry, opening opportunities to a wider client base which will benefit both our college and the city economically.”
Calum Maclean, Curriculum Head for the Faculty of Nautical Studies at City of Glasgow College, said:
“Having gained OPITO Approval accreditation, we will deliver these courses in partnership with SAFER Training. Our college will be one of only seven providers across the whole of the UK to deliver this type of training and having an additional training facility out with Aberdeen broadens the scope for companies who wish to access this training which is good for the industry.”
“As a specialist service company catering to the needs of oil and gas companies, subsea operators and marine contractors globally, the addition of our jointly approved standards with City of Glasgow College underpins our values and commitment to providing internationally recognised quality training and assessment.”
The courses, which begin in August 2018, are two of a number of highly specialist programmes due to be rolled out detailing how to respond to and manage major emergencies offshore.
