IOSH Certified Confined Space Entry Awareness

Blended Learning – IOSH Certified Confined Space Entry Awareness

A Confined Space is a place which is substantially enclosed (though not always entirely), and where serious injury can occur from hazardous substances or conditions within the space or nearby. These hazards include a lack of oxygen, exposure to dangerous chemicals and falls from height, slips, trips and falls.

The IOSH Certified Confined Space Entry Awareness course outlines the correct entry methods into a confined space, correct gas testing procedures, and how to conduct a rescue operation. There is a strong emphasis on health and safety issues, which deal with correct paperwork, such as work permits and confined space entry certificates, and how to identify potential hazards present in the space prior to entry.

The Confined Space Entry course is a blended learning course, which provides learners with a one-hour eLearning course that delivers and assesses the fundamental, underpinning knowledge relating to entry of a confined space. This is then further supported by a one-day practical training session, which can be conducted in a training facility or in the workplace e.g. an onshore or offshore platform or vessel. The learning outcomes from the eLearning course relate directly to the equipment used, and exercises performed, during the practical exercises carried out in the workplace. The delegates are assessed performing a number of practical tasks prior to them being deemed as competent to pass the course.

  • Definition of a confined space
  • Outlining the legislation pertaining to Confined Space Entry
  • Identifying hazards
  • Required PPE
  • Risk assessment procedure
  • Work permits and Confined Space Entry certificates
  • Rescue procedures
